Bangladesh’s development coach catches Coronavirus

Bangladesh cricketers call off strike

The devil of coronavirus had already stalled all cricket matches in the world, now it is also encroaching upon cricketers and coaches. Bangladesh Cricket Board’s (BCB) development coach, Ashiqur Rehman has been tested positive for coronavirus. The former U-19 pace bowler was a part of the Bangladesh side which played in the 2002 World Cup and has also featured 15 first-class matches and 18 List A games.

Speaking to Cricbuzz, Rahman revealed his side of the story. “I got admitted today afternoon (Tuesday, 12th May). Got the report yesterday and the report says COVID-19 positive.” The Bangladeshi cricketer confirmed he had been grappling with the symptoms and also suffered chest pain. “I didn’t understand it at first. I thought I had a swollen tonsil. I had a sore throat at first, then slowly comes fever, then started to have chest pain and went to the doctor and did my test,” Rahman told.

This is the first example of a first-class cricketer being coronavirus positive. It is not clear as to how Rahman came in contact with the virus. While cricketers are serving a lockdown, they have been engaging in lively conversations with each other on social media.
