Mumbai Cricket Association museum to feature life‑size statue of Sunil Gavaskar

The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has announced that it will install life‑size statues of legendary opener Sunil Gavaskar and respected administrator Sharad Pawar at the entrance of its upcoming MCA Sharad Pawar Cricket Museum. Nestled within the iconic Wankhede Stadium, the museum is slated to open in August 2025, offering a powerful tribute to Mumbai’s rich cricketing heritage.
As visitors step into the museum, they will be greeted by these towering figures. Pawar’s statue pays homage to his influential roles leading the MCA, BCCI, and ICC, while Gavaskar’s presence embodies the cricketing excellence he so famously achieved. The MCA emphasized that Gavaskar’s figure will serve as a symbol of dedication and inspiration for aspiring young cricketers across the nation, reflecting his pioneering legacy both on and off the field.
Sunil Gavaskar himself expressed heartfelt appreciation for the honour, stating that he was “deeply touched and tremendously honoured” by this gesture from his “mother Cricket Association.” He acknowledged the pivotal role MCA played in his early career, and expressed gratitude to the BCCI for enabling him to represent India on the world stage-an opportunity he said he would cherish forever.
Inside, the museum promises an immersive experience with meticulously curated memorabilia donated by Mumbai’s cricketing greats. Interactive audio‑visual displays will bring iconic milestones and defining moments of Mumbai cricket to life. Together, these elements aim to inspire visitors by celebrating the city’s legacy of producing outstanding talent and fostering a culture steeped in excellence.
