T20 WC 2022: Know the venues of the World event

The 2022 T20 World Cup kicked off on October 16 with Sri Lanka taking on Namibia in the opening encounter. This year, the T20 World Cup is being hosted in Australia with a total of seven venues selected for all the matches. In this article, here is a brief look at each one of the seven venues for this edition of the mega event:

7. Adelaide Oval

Adelaide Oval will host a total of seven matches in the upcoming competition. The stadium was established in 1871 and has a seating capacity of 53,500 spectators. The wicket at the ground generally provides good bounce and several high-scoring matches have been seen at the venue.

6. The Gabba:

The Gabba cricket stadium was established in 1895 and has a seating capacity of 42,000 spectators. The venue will host a total of four matches in the competition. Located in Brisbane, the pitch at the Gabba is better suited for fast bowling and batters will need to get accustomed to the bounce and pace of the wicket before going for shots.

5. Simonds Stadium

Simonds Stadium has only hosted a T20I game till now, but the venue will host a total of six matches in the T20 World Cup. The stadium was established in 1876 and has a seating capacity of 36,000. Despite not hosting many international games, the stadium has a leading first-class cricket facility.

4. Bellerive Oval:

Bellerive Oval will host nine matches in the upcoming competition. The stadium was established in 1914 and has a seating capacity of around 20,000 spectators. The first T20I match on the ground was played between Australia and England in February 2018.

3. Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG)

The iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) will host a total of seven matches in the competition including the final match. MCG was established in 1838 and has a seating capacity of a mammoth 100,000 spectators. The venue will host the India vs Pakistan clash on October 23.

2. Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG)

Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) will host seven matches of the T20 World Cup. Established in 1848, the venue has a seating capacity of 42,500. The wicket at SCG generally assists the spinners with runs hard to come by in the middle overs.

1. Perth Cricket Stadium

Perth Cricket Stadium will host five matches in the upcoming T20 World Cup. The stadium has a seating capacity of 60,000 and it hosted its first T20I match in November 2019 when the home team faced Pakistan. The first Test match was played between Australia and India in December 2018.
