IPL 2023: 3 Players CSK might pick at the auction

The Chennai Super Kings have a purse of INR 20.45 crore heading into the IPL 2023 mini-auction, which is set to take place in Kochi on December 23. They would be hoping to make a smart and long-term investments with this amount. The Yellow Army had a dismal 2022 campaign where they finished at the ninth position in the points table.

The IPL 2023 could also be MS Dhoni’s swansong and would be hoping to lead CSK to a fifth IPL crown. Meanwhile, with several players being released, Chennai would be hoping to fill the slots with some key players. Without further ado, here’s a look at three of them.

Sam Curran

England’s seasoned all-rounder Sam Curran has gone on to establish himself as a proven match-winner. While Curran can contribute some vital runs in the middle-order, he can also blow away the opposition with his left-arm medium pace.

The 24-year-old had represented the Chennai Super Kings for two seasons. He was a member of their title-winning squad in the 2021 edition before being released by the franchise. Curran emerged as the Player of the Tournament in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022. He registered 13 scalps to his name and therefore, CSK could look to buy him to fill the all-rounder’s slot.

Ben Stokes

CSK will also be aiming to buy star England all-rounder Ben Stokes at this year’s auction probably as a long -term investment option and as a successor to MS Dhoni.  Stokes is a very accomplished cricketer. While he can provide handy breakthroughs with the ball, he can also play a finisher’s role to perfection with the bat in the middle-order and has played match-winning knocks in two World Cup finals- ODI World Cup 2019 and T20 World Cup 2022.

Nicholas Pooran

Nicholas Pooran was released by the Sunrisers Hyderabad for his inconsistent performances last season. He is expected to fetch a high bid at the IPL 2023 Auction.  The southpaw made a strong statement during at the Abu Dhabi T10 League 2022. He led the Deccan Gladiators to back-to-back title wins. Pooran was also adjudged the Player of the Tournament, having amassed 345 runs at a strike rate of 234.69. Therefore, CSK would be definitely looking forward to having the Caribbean cricket on board for the 2023 season.
