3. Shaun Marsh | 84 runs

The first season of the IPL in 2008 saw numerous high-scoring games and a few batters getting massive runs on their debut. Shaun Marsh, while playing for Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings), hammered Deccan Chargers (now defunct) during the chase as he got an unbeaten 84 runs to his name with as many as 11 boundaries and one maximum off 62 balls.

2. Mike Hussey | 116 runs

In 2008, Mike Hussey recorded the second-highest individual score on debut when he notched up 116 runs for Chennai Super Kings. The knock came against Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium in Mohali. The southpaw remained unbeaten throughout the course of the first innings and concluded with 116 off 54 balls which included nine maximums and eight boundaries.

1. Brendon McCullum | 158 runs

In the very first match of the IPL in 2008, McCullum hammered the most runs in the history of the league until Chris Gayle broke it in 2013. The former Kiwi skipper scored a blistering knock of 158 runs for Kolkata Knight Riders against Royal Challengers Bangalore at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, which went down in the IPL history books.
