Rachin Ravindra shares his experience of securing a thrilling draw for NZ

Seldom you’ll see a visiting side giving Team India a tough time in a home Test match. However, New Zealand managed to do so in the recently-concluded first Test at the Green Park in Nagpur. It was a fascinating game as both sides were neck-to-neck throughout the five days. However, India’s victory looked pretty certain on the final day as the Kiwis had to survive the entire day with nine wickets in hand.

In fact, New Zealand lost their ninth wicket with around 10 overs of play remaining in the game. However, Rachin Ravindra and Ajaz Patel showcased remarkable resilience and managed a draw for their side. The duo survived as many as 52 deliveries, which is indeed phenomenal against India’s formidable bowling attack on a challenging track.

While Rachin survived 91 deliveries to make 18, Ajaz scored 2 off 23 balls. In a video shared by New Zealand Cricket’s official Twitter handle, the two left-arm spinners interacted with each other after the conclusion of the game. As Rachin made his Test debut in this contest, Ajaz recalled his own maiden Test and shared his experience.

I felt a bit nervous bowling wise: Rachin Ravindra

“I remember my my first Test match, I was really nervous, and my hands were shaking when I first got the ball. How was it for you?” Patel asked. While Ravindra admitted being nervous earlier in the game, the southpaw said he didn’t take long in getting into the mould.

“I felt a bit nervous bowling wise. We were about four down in first innings when I was next, so definitely felt a few butterflies (that time), but I think after a few balls, I did what I do. Luckily it ended up okay,” said the 22-year-old.

“Being able to play in India in front of crazy fans. Glad to have done that. My mum and dad have been such big influences on my career. I am sure that they are proud,” said Ravindra, who has already gained a lot of attention for his Indian roots. “We did it together bro,” said Ravindra to Patel, reffering to their last-wicket partnership, which helped the Kiwis to earn a draw.
