Cricket world pays tribute to Shane Warne on death anniversary

Shane Warne

In what is considered a black day for world cricket, legendary Australian bowler, Shane Warne, passed away due to a suspected heart attack on March 4, 2022. Late Shane Warne is widely regarded as one of the greatest spinners to ever grace the game, and former Australian skipper, Allan Border, even opined that Warne was Australia’s greatest ever bowler.

It’s been a year since Warne passed away at the age of 52. As the world observed his death anniversary on March 4, 2023, many cricketers came forward to pay their tributes to the late legendary spinner. Players like Glenn McGrath, Adam Gilchrist, Michael Vaughan, and many more reflected on his career.

“To the man who inspired me to chase a dream and the bloke who was a dream to have on your side…may you both continue to #RIP,” Adam Gilchrist tweeted.

Legendary Indian batter Sachin Tendulkar also took to Twitter to pay tribute to the late Australian spinner.

“We have had some memorable battles on the field & shared equally memorable moments off it. I miss you not only as a great cricketer but also as a great friend. I am sure you are making heaven a more charming place than it ever was with your sense of humour and charisma, Warnie!” Tendulkar tweeted.

Many other players and franchises took to social media to pay tribute to Warne as well.

Warne had some memorable highlights throughout his career

Whenever the Shane Warne name is being discussed, it is hard to not talk about the delivery he bowled to Mike Gatting at the 1993 Ashes series. Branded as the ‘ball of the century’, the delivery completely deceived Gatting as it clipped the bail right as he attempted to defend the ball.

Warne also boasts a fabulous record in international cricket. He had 708 wickets in 145 Test matches for Australia. He also has 293 wickets in 194 ODI matches as well, making him one of the greatest bowlers to ever play the game.
