5. Ajaz Patel

The left-arm spinner from New Zealand is the latest one to join the elite list. He was born in Mumbai and then shifted with his family to New Zealand when he was just eight years old. The spinner exuded his sheer flair in the second and final Test as he clinched 14 wickets in the match.
He secured 10 wickets in India’s first innings and became the only third player to do so in the history of Test match cricket. Previously only Jim Laker and Anil Kumble had achieved this incredible feat.
4. Monty Panesar
The former England cricketer is renowned for his performances especially in the England tour of India in 2012. His parents had moved from Punjab to Luton and then decided to settle in England. In the 2012 Test series, the visitors had dominated the proceedings by 2-1.
In the Mumbai Test match, Panesar picked up 11 wickets in the match. He registered a five-wicket haul in India’s first innings and then scalped six wickets in the second innings of the hosts. This tour went on to become one of the pinnacles of his career.
3. Nasser Hussain

The former England skipper is one of the most prominent names on this list. He was born in Chennai but then moved with his family to England. One of his best performances against India came in the Natwest Trophy in the year 2002. He created problems for the Indian bowlers and helped the side reach a competitive total of 334.
He dominated India’s bowling unit and played a belligerent inning of 112 runs. Though England had lost the game, this is considered as one of the best innings of his illustrious career. He is now well-known for his commentary stint all over the world.
2. Ish Sodhi
Sodhi was born in Ludhiana, Punjab before he moved with his family to New Zealand at the age of four. It must be a herculean task for him to emerge as a prime spinner in the country wherein the pitches do not favor spin bowling much. He displayed his flair in the recently concluded ICC T20 World cup 2021.
The spinner asked difficult questions to India’s batter and registered impressive figures of 2-17 in his four overs. It helped the Kiwis to restrict the opposition to a total of just 110 runs. In the 2016 edition of the mega event as well, he scalped 3 wickets and conceded just 18 runs against India.
1. Hashim Amla
The South African’s father hailed from Gujarat before settling in Durban where Amla was born and brought up. He made his international debut against India at the Eden Gardens. He also hit his maiden away century of 159 runs against India in Chennai.
However, one of his most remembered innings is the one that came in Nagpur. The swashbuckling batter played an unbeaten knock of 253 runs to help the Proteas win the Test match by an innings and six runs. Hashim Amla holds the incredible record for being the fastest ever to score 2000, 3000, 4000, 5000, 6000, and 7000 ODI runs.
