IPL 2021: CSK vs PBKS Review – Chennai succumb to 3rd consecutive defeat

Chennai Super Kings suffered their third straight defeat in IPL 2022 after losing to the Punjab Kings by 54 runs in Match 11 of IPL 2022. Shivam Dube was the only shining light for the CSK in their batting lineup as he scored a quickfire half-century to keep his side in the hunt, but the required run rate was mounting up which wasn’t helped by MS Dhoni’s slow knock as well.

Earlier, Punjab Kings lost the toss and were off to a shaky start losing their skipper Mayank Agarwal and Bhanuka Rajapksa. However, Livingstone powered the innings together with Shikhar Dhawan and took the side to a big total of 180 in their 20 overs. Jitesh Sharma played a good hand of 27 as well in the middle order.

CSK kept losing wickets right from the start and were reduced to 36 for 5 on the back of superb new-ball spells from the Punjab seamers. It was a huge victory for the Punjab Kings in the end and has bolstered their net run rate as well which took a blow in their last game.

Top Performers of the game

Vaibhav Arora

Vaibhav Arora came into the playing XI at the expense of Harpreet Brar for this game, and he had an immediate impact picking up two big wickets of Robin Uthappa and Ruturaj Gaikwad. The seamer swung it both ways and finished his four-over spell with 2 for 21 on his IPL debut for the Punjab kings.

Liam Livingstone

Livingstone was quite good with both bat and ball in the game against Chennai Super Kings and took advantage of the inexperienced bowler Mukesh Chowdhary in the powerplay. The right-hander hit five sixes and five fours in his innings of 32-ball 60 and picked up two wickets in his three overs with the ball as well.

What’s next for the two teams?

Chennai Super Kings will next take on the Sunrisers Hyderabad on 9th April at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy, Navi Mumbai while the Punjab Kings will play the Gujarat Titans on 8th April at Brabourne Stadium.
