Rohit Sharma added to Mumbai’s Ranji squad for the game vs Jammu & Kashmir

The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has named the squad for the upcoming Round 6 of the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2024-25. The fixture will see Mumbai square off against Jammu & Kashmir at the MCA Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy, BKC Ground, in Mumbai in a four-day fixture starting January 23. Notably, India opening stars Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal have also found places in the 17-man squad, which will be captained by ace batter Ajinkya Rahane.

It is noteworthy to mention that the India Test captain will be turning up in a domestic game for Mumbai after a decade, having last played a Ranji game in the 2015 season in the league stage match against Uttar Pradesh. Jaiswal, on the other hand, will play his first game after earning his international call-up. The southpaw’s last Ranji game came during the 2023 season when Mumbai faced neighbours Maharashtra.

The squad also features other international stars in the likes of Shreyas Iyer, Shivam Dube, and Shardul Thakur. Meanwhile, out of favour opening batter Prithvi Shaw has been left out once again. Young top-order batter Ayush Mhatre is also in the squad, but his inclusion in the playing XI is doubtful given the inclusion of bigger names in the line-up. Experienced campaigner Siddhesh Lad has also been awarded a position in the unit.

Speaking of the wicketkeeping options, Hardik Tamore is the primary keeper-batter in the squad, while Akash Anand is expected to be his backup for the upcoming fixture. Meanwhile, seasoned spin-bowling all-rounders like Tanush Kotian and Shams Mulani are assumed with the spinning duties. Meanwhile, the pace attack will be handled by Shardul, Mohit Awashti, and Himanshu Singh.

Other key names in Mumbai’s squad for the important upcoming clash include Sylvester Dsouza (medium fast bowler), Royston Dias (bowling all-rounder), and Karsh Kothari (slow left-arm orthodox).
