WPL Review: UP Warriorz pip Bengaluru in a super over thriller

UP Warriorz Women clinched victory against Royal Challengers Bengaluru Women in a thriller of a contest in Match 9 of the 2025 edition of the Women’s Premier League at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru via a Super Over.

Being sent in to bat first, Smriti Mandhana departed quite early in the piece. From that point onwards, Danni Wyatt-Hodge and Ellyse Perry steered the innings masterfully to build a solid platform for the hosts. Both the batters got to their respective half-centuries during their 94-run stand for the third wicket. Wyatt-Hodge departed shortly after registering her highest score in the WPL (57). However, Perry continued on her merry way to notch up yet another impressive performance. She ended up unbeaten on 90 off 56 deliveries. RCB-W ended up posting 180 on the board.

Coming to the run-chase, UP-W got off to a flyer. They scored 57 but lost three wickets too. Shweta Sehrawat stuck around for a while, with wickets tumbling around her. It was due to a late surge by Sophie Ecclestone and Saima Thakor that they managed a revival. A thrilling finish ensued with 17 runs being scored out of 18 to get the game to a Super Over.

The Super Over was a low-scoring encounter with no boundaries across both sets. A couple of wides bowled by RCB’s Kim Garth contributed to UP-W getting to 8. In reply, Ecclestone impressed with a stunning comeback to win the game for her side. Overall, it was a game of twists and turns which ultimately led to UP-W winning their second consecutive victory.

Top Performers
