Stokes overtakes Holder to become No.1 Test all-rounder
England’s Ben Stokes has overtaken West Indies skipper Jason Holder to go atop the ICC Test Rankings for All-Rounders. Stokes’ performance with both bat and ball in the 2nd Test helped him go past the Windies captain.
Before the start of the Test series, Stokes occupied the second place with a 54-point gap between him and Holder. While he didn’t fare great in the 1st Test at Southampton, the all-rounder got back to form at Manchester to help England draw level. His tally of 254 runs and 3 wickets across both innings put him 38 points ahead of Holder.

Stokes is now the first England player since Andrew Flintoff in May 2006 to sit at the numero uno position in the rankings. With 497 rating points, he’s second only to Jacques Kallis’ tally of 517 points in April 2008. With a fine 176 in the first innings and an unbeaten 78 in the second, Stokes has also jumped up the ICC Test Rankings for Batsmen. He’s now tied with Australia’s Marnus Labuschagne in third place.
On the other hand, pacer Stuart Broad has made it back to the top 10 of the ICC Test Rankings for bowlers, after having missed the 1st Test. His teammate James Anderson has slipped to 11th place.
