T20 WC 2021: AUS vs SL Preview – Australia set to face trial by spin against Lankans

Josh Hazlewood

Australia and Sri Lanka are all set to face each other in the Group 1 Super 12 game in Dubai on October 27. Both the teams got off to a positive start to the main round and would want to continue their winning ways. Australia defeated South Africa while Sri Lanka defeated Bangladesh to begin their campaign in style.

Heading into this game, one would have to say that Australia is slightly ahead in terms of having an experienced T20 team. However, it is the conditions that might present a handful of issues for them and might act as an advantage to the Sri Lankan side. The toss will be crucial as there could be a dew factor in the game.

Match Info

Australia vs Sri Lanka, 22nd Match, Super 12 Group 1

Venue: Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai

Time: 7:30 PM IST

Head to head:

The two teams had faced thrice in T20 World Cups, with Australia winning two of those contests in 2007 and 2010 while Sri Lanka won only once in 2009.

Team News:

Australia: There is no reason why Australia could feel the need to change their XI. All players are fit and they have possibly found a great balance for their side. With Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis and Mitchell Marsh, they have enough all-rounders who can make a difference while their batting is also quite solid. They would expect some runs from the top order though.

Sri Lanka: The Sri Lankan team also doesn’t have a reason to make any changes in this line-up. Maheesh Theekshana, the mystery spinner, who was incredibly impressive with the ball in the qualifiers might get back in the team after missing the last match due to a side strain. Apart from that, there is no need to change their XI and we might find them playing the same side.
