3 players that may breach INR 5 crore mark at WPL auction

As the Women’s Premier League (WPL) auction is just around the corner, teams will look to bolster their squads with some of the best names in world cricket. The WPL auction is scheduled to take place on Monday, February 13. In the lead up to the big day, as many as 1,525 cricketers registered before the list was pruned to 409, of which 246 are Indians and 163 overseas (eight from associate nations). Each team is allowed to have up to six overseas players and the squads can have between 15 to 18 players to complete the team.

With that said, let’s look at the three players who may spark a bidding war on February 13:

3. Beth Mooney (AUS)

Australia’s Beth Mooney has been in sublime form as her willow has done much of the talking. Recently in the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL), Mooney amassed 434 runs in mere 13 innings at an average of 43.40 for the Perth Scorchers. Keeping in mind her stunning form, many teams will be interested to snap up her services and she could possibly breach INR 5 crore mark at the auction.

2. Shafali Verma (IND)

Shafali recently guided the U19 national side to glory by winning the inaugural Women’s U19 T20 World Cup in South Africa. She has featured in 51 T20Is and amassed 1231 runs at an astounding average of 24.62. However, what makes her more spectacular is her blinder of a strike rate of 134.53, which would draw massive attention in the auction room.

1. Harmanpreet Kaur (IND)

Harmanpreet Kaur, the skipper of the Indian side, has a lot of experience of playing cricket against the best teams and she currently tops the charts in the list of highest run-getters of the Indian side, with 2940 runs in 131 innings. Franchises will surely lookout for a player with leadership qualities coupled with terrific ability to get runs, both of which is possessed by the Indian skipper. This coming auction could see her getting massive bucks, perhaps even beyond the INR 5 crore mark.
