3 players who deserved promotion in BCCI central contracts

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently announced the annual central contracts for 2022-23 which saw a few demotions with the likes of Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara being downgraded from category A to B. It also saw a promotion for Mohammad Siraj from C to B on the back of his consistent performances. However, there were also a few other players who could well have deserved promotion but did not get it.

Here’s looking at 3 players who deserved promotion in BCCI central contracts

Ravindra Jadeja

Star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has retained his category A contract from last year. However, Jadeja has been one of the most important members of the Indian team in the recent past and has put in some consistent performances across all formats. He is often talked about as India’s best current cricketer in terms of what he brings to the team with his mastery in all three disciplines of the game. The 33-year-old is one of the most improved batters in Test cricket and has won India plenty of Tests at home with his bowling thus deserving promotion to the top tier A+ contract list.

KL Rahul

Even though KL Rahul has been vulnerable to injuries and has had to miss a few games for India recently, the cricketer being one of India’s best batters deserved an A+ contract. The 29-year-old also led the Test side in a Test in South Africa in the absence of the then captain Virat Kohli. Rahul, who made his debut in 2014, is seen as the potential captain of India across formats in a few years and is now a batting mainstay in all three formats of the game. Therefore, he could have been given a promotion from his current A grade contract.

Rishabh Pant

Though Pant is yet to establish himself as a match-winner in the white-ball format, he has done plenty in red-ball cricket for India to deserve the A+. In the past, Rohit Sharma has been a part of the A+ group even though not being a regular in the Test side at that time which further endorses Pant’s case. Having been instrumental in India winning the famed series in Australia last year and then scoring heavily at home too, Pant could have surely been given a promotion from his current A category contract.
