It’s every team’s dream to win the Indian Premier League (IPL) title and no side likes to lose at least after reaching the Playoffs. To come all the way through into the final stages of the tournament and to get knocked out in it doesn’t please a team that makes maximums efforts in reaching there. Over the years, some sides have suffered the pain of getting eliminated from the knockout stages of the league time and again.

Let’s look at the 3 teams that have been knocked out of IPL Playoffs most frequently:

Delhi Capitals (6)

Delhi Capitals (DC) has suffered the disappointment of getting eliminated from the playoffs six times. In 2008, they were defeated by Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the semi-final. In 2012, they lost to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the first Qualifier and to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the second qualifier. DC lost the all-important final of the 2022 season against Mumbai Indians (MI). It was CSK and KKR again who put misery on DC but this time in reverse matches in 2021. Pant and his team lost to CSK in Qualifier 1 and to KKR in Qualifier 2. The team is yet to win a trophy in the IPL.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has lost the Final encounter five times in the tournament’s history. The second-most successful franchise in the IPL, CSK suffered defeats in the final thrice to MI in 2013, 2015, and 2019. They lost two of the mega clashes to RR in the inaugural 2008 season and to KKR in 2012. CSK lost the semi-final to Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the 2009 campaign and Qualifier 2 to Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the year 2014. Notably, the Men in Yellow have won four titles in 2010, 2011, 2018, and 2021.

Royal Challengers Bangalore (8)

One of the most franchises in the IPL, the Royal Challengers Bangalore have never ever lifted the trophy. They got defeats in the finals thrice as in 2009 they lost to Deccan Chargers while in 2011 and 2016 they faced the pain against CSK and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) respectively. RCB lost to MI in the semis of the 2010 season and to CSK in Qualifier 2 in 2015. They lost two consecutive eliminator clashes in the years 2020 and 2021 to SRH and KKR respectively. Lastly and most recently in 2022, they suffered defeats to RR in the Qualifier 2.
