5 batsmen in ODIs who were dismissed stumped against fast bowlers

It is a rare sight to watch pace bowlers take wickets via stumping. It is not very often that the keeper stands close to the wickets while a pacer is bowling, and it is generally perceived as a defensive move. However, on some occasions, to keep batsmen in their crease and not able to step down the pitch, the keeper stands up to the certain bowlers and ends up affecting a stumping off a pace bowler which is a rare occurrence.

5. Kapil Dev- Greg Ritchie (1986)

Greg Ritchie was a middle-order batsman for the Australian cricket team. This incident happened in the 1986 ODI series between India and Australia. Ritchie scored 75 runs before being dismissed by Dev in the final ball of the innings via stumping.

4. Glenn McGrath- Craig McMillan (2005)

This incident took place during the ODI series after the first t20i match in history. McGrath was in full flow, with figures of 1 / 7 in 7 overs. McMillan tried to step out and up the ante. But he missed the full length delivery and Gilchrist was quick to dislodge the bails, making McGrath join this unique list.

3. Shaun Pollock- Ramnaresh Sarwan (2005)

This incident happened in the first ODI of the 2005 South Africa tour of West Indies, at Kingston. Pollock didn’t bowl that well in the first 6 overs, conceding 39 runs. Sarwan tried to take him on and dominate but missed to connect his shot and eventually got stumped from a smart Mark Boucher.

2. Chaminda Vaas- Brian Lara (2007)

This face-off took place in the 2007 World Cup Super 8 Stage. West Indies had to win against Sri Lanka to stay in the hunt. Vaas was bowling really well, and he beat Lara cleverly while he was trying to drive it. At the same time, Sangakkara observed that Lara’s back foot was outside the crease, and he cleverly dislodged the bails.

1. Tim Southee – Ricky Ponting (2011)

This incident happened in the 2011 World Cup in the group stage match between Australia and New Zealand. Southee troubled Ponting before bowling one down the leg side and McCullum stumped him as soon as the batsman lost his balance and went out of the crease.
