5 Test players with the double of 5000 runs and 150 wickets

Kallis

All-rounders always have played a vital part in the Test format and it becomes an added luxury for the captain if one of their top six batters can contribute with the ball too. Especially in subcontinent pitches, the importance of an extra batter is higher and hence, all-rounders can be a blessing in disguise. Here are 5 Test players with the double of 5000 runs and 150 wickets.

Jacques Kallis

Former South African batter Jacques Kallis is arguably, one of the greatest all-rounders, the world has ever seen and he batted inside the top four mostly despite his bowling efforts. Kallis played 166 Tests from 1995 scoring 13289 runs at an average of 55.4 with 45 centuries and 55 half-centuries in his international career. He also picked up 292 wickets with five-wicket hauls in his Test career.

Kapil Dev

One of India’s most celebrated cricketers, Kapil Dev was more than just a handy all-rounder, and he led India to the first-ever World Cup victory in 1983. He scored 5248 runs in 131 Tests at an average of 31.1 with eight centuries and 27 half-centuries. In his primary role as a right-arm medium-fast bowler, he picked up 434 wickets at an average of 29.6 with 23 five-wicket hauls.

Garfield Sobers

Garfield Sobers enjoyed a lot of success in his international career as the former West Indian scored 8032 runs in 93 Tests at an average of 57.8. He scored 26 centuries and 30 half-centuries with the highest score of unbeaten 365 and he contributed a lot with his left-arm medium pace as well. Sobers picked up 235 wickets at an average of 34 with six five-wicket hauls.

Ian Botham

The former England all-rounder also picked up 383 wickets at an average of 28.4 with 27 five-wicket hauls and is considered to be one of the all-time greats.

Ben Stokes

Ben Stokes was the latest entrant to the list as he crossed the 5000-run mark while playing against the West Indies earlier this year. The left-hander has scored 5116 runs in 80 Tests at an average of 35.8 with 11 centuries and 27 half-centuries. He has already picked up 175 wickets at an average of 32.2 and is among the best all-rounders in the current era.
