6 overseas players who played IPL before their FC debut

The Indian Premier League (IPL) has always been a platform for the players to perform and make their case for the national side. Over the past 14 seasons, many cricketers have shone in the cash-rich league. Some of them appeared in the IPL well before playing first-class cricket. Few names still didn’t feature in first-class matches even after appearing in India’s entertaining T20 league.

Let’s take a look at 6 overseas players who made their debut in the IPL before making their FC debut:

1.Krishmar Santokie

The left-arm medium-pace bowler from West Indies, Krishmar Santokie played just two matches in the IPL. He appeared for Mumbai Indians (MI) in the year 2014. He took three wickets in eight overs in the two games at an average of 30.00 and an economy rate of 11.25. The seam bowler has not played First-Class cricket till now in his career.

2.Mujeeb Ur Rahman

Afghanistan spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman has played 19 IPL matches and taken as many wickets. His average is 31.15 and an economy rate of 8.18. The mystery spin bowler has played 18 matches for Punjab Kings (PBKS) and a solitary game for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). He made his IPL debut in 2018 and First-Class (FC) debut later on in the same year.

3.Sandeep Lamichhane

Nepal leg-spinner Sandeep Lamichhane debuted in the IPL for Delhi Capitals (DC) in the year 2018. He has played nine matches in the league and has taken 13 wickets at an average and economy rate of 22.46 and 8.34 respectively. He made his FC debut the next year in 2019.

4.Chris Green

Australian bowling all-rounder Chris Green is yet to appear in FC cricket. The 28-year-old right-arm off-break bowler made his IPL debut for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the year 2020. His game against Mumbai Indians (MI) in Abu Dhabi is his only game in the IPL so far. He bowled 2.5 overs and took no wickets for 24 runs.

5.Tim David

Singapore-born Tim David has not played any FC cricket. He featured for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in 2021 and is representing MI in the 2022 edition. Hard-hitting batter David, who holds Australian citizenship as well, has scored just 14 runs in three IPL games at a dire average of 4.66.

6.Dewald Brevis

The star of the Under-19 World 2022, Dewald Brevis took the tournament by storm with his clean and powerful hitting. MI bought him in the 2022 auctions and he has scored 117 runs at a devastating strike rate of 172.05 in four matches so far in the season. The 18-years old Brevis is yet to feature in FC cricket.
