All of India’s captains across formats in 2022

India’s leadership across formats went through a transition in 2022. Virat Kohli led the pack in all three formats for the nation till the T20 World Cup 2022 but then things took a wild turn. The incumbent resigned from his throne in the T20 format while the selectors ended his reign in the other two forms of the game. Rohit Sharma became the next all-mighty leader. However, injuries and workload management have dictated a rotational policy. Here are all the men who have/will lead India in 2022.

Tests

Indian Test team began the year with KL Rahul as their leader. With Kohli ruled out of the 2nd Test against South Africa due to an injury, the opener had to step up and don the India blazer. Kohli returned to take his place in the following Test. India lost both these Tests and the series. At home in the month of March, Rohit then led the nation in two Tests against Sri Lanka and delivered a 2-0 result.

ODIs

The three-match ODI series in South Africa presented a unique situation. Virat Kohli was displaced to appoint Rohit Sharma as the leader. However, Rohit’s injury meant that the team management had to find another candidate and they settled on KL Rahul. The captaincy debut ended in a 0-3 defeat. Rohit returned to claim a 3-0 victory over West Indies at home a month later.

T20Is

After India’s unceremonious exit from the T20 World Cup 2022, it was the Rohit Sharma era in the T20 format. India defeated West Indies 3-0 and followed it up with another 3-0 triumph over Sri Lanka. Rishabh Pant was then given the leadership duties with both KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma being unavailable. Hardik Pandya was then added to the leadership group with him being appointed as India captain for the Ireland T20I series.
