Asia Cup 2022: Mohammad Rizwan taken to hospital after Indo-Pak clash

Pakistan got over the line against India on Sunday on the back of a match-winning knock from wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan, who was taken to the hospital in the aftermath of the thrilling victory as he had sustained an injury while wicketkeeping during the Indian batting innings earlier in the match.

India batted first in the match after Babar Azam won the toss and invited the neighbours to bat on a belter of a pitch. Rohit Sharma’s men were off to a flier, and later it was Virat Kohli who did the bulk of the scoring. However, the major cause of concern for the Pakistani team is Mohammad Rizwan’s knee injury during that innings as the wicketkeeper landed awkwardly in an attempt to grasp the ball and injured his knee.

He was in considerable discomfort and was attended by the physio after the incident in the first innings. But despite his injury concern, the experienced batter came out to bat for the team, limping every now and then while running between the wickets. He played a crucial knockoff 71 runs to keep Pakistan in the chase.

Although he was dismissed in the latter stages of the match, he had done a valiant job as Pakistan got home with five wickets to spare on the second-last ball of the match. The opening batter was taken to the hospital after the enthralling encounter and will undergo a precautionary MRI scan today to determine the extent of his injury, according to Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

Pakistan will be hoping to avoid any major injury to Mohammad Rizwan

Notably, Pakistan have been suffering from a host of injury concerns in the team with Shaheen Afridi and Mohammad Wasim ruled out ahead of the tournament and Shahnawaz Dahani a doubt for the remaining matches of the competition. Any serious injury to Rizwan could be a telling blow for the side as he has been the in-form batter for the side with skipper Babar Azam struggling for runs in the continental tournament.
