AUS vs IND: 3rd ODI Preview – India look to stop losing streak in ODIs

Virat Kohli

Aaron Finch’s Australia and Virat Kohli’s India will take on each other at the Manuka Oval, Canberra in the third and final ODI on Wednesday. Australia have clinched the series with two straight wins at Sydney and India will be looking to signing off the series with a consolation victory.

Yet another exceptional display with the bat meant that the Aussies batted India out of the game once again in the second ODI. India have now suffered 5 consecutive defeats in ODIs this year. However, with the series lost, India will now be looking to salvage their pride in the final ODI to stop the losing run. Also, this isn’t a dead rubber by any means given that the 10 points are up for grabs World Cup Super League.

Team News:

Australia:

Australia beat their record ODI total against India that they made in the previous match. All the top 5 batsmen scored 50+, as Smith scored another 62 ball hundred. Starc looked a bit off color again, but the other bowlers put up a good show to restrict the Indian batting lineup to just 338 in the second innings.

Warner has been ruled out of the white-ball leg of the tour. Marnus Labuschagne has volunteered to open in the 3rd ODI, and it remains to be seen what Finch has in mind. Matthew Wade is likely to step up at the opening slot. Cummins has also been rested for the remainder of the white-ball tour.

India:

Former cricketers and experts have raised questions on Virat Kohli’s captaincy in this ODI series. The poor form of the bowlers continued, as India conceded 389 runs in this match. India have failed to take a single wicket in the Powerplay in the last 5 ODIs, which has been the primary reason for their poor run. With nothing to lose, India can afford to experiment a bit and give an opportunity to players on the bench. A win for the team here shall surely boost their confidence going into the T20I series.
