AUS vs IND: Ravindra Jadeja ruled out of T20I series, Shardul Thakur added

After the much-controversial situation involving Ravindra Jadeja being allowed a concussion substitution, the BCCI has declared the all-rounder unfit for the rest of the series. Shardul Thakur has been named as Jadeja’s replacement for the remainder of the series. On 4th December (Friday), India defeated Australia by 11 runs to go up 1-0 in the three-match series.

During his astounding knock of unbeaten 44 from 23 balls, Jadeja was hit on the helmet by a rising delivery which deflected off his bat. He later complained of hamstring issues as well but completed his innings nevertheless. In the mid-innings break, he was announced to be concussed. The Indian team substituted him with Yuzvendra Chahal. The leg-spinner claimed 3/25 and was named Man of the Match for his performance.

In the statement released by BCCI, the medical condition of Jadeja is revealed. It reads:

“Ravindra Jadeja sustained a concussion after being hit on the left side of his forehead in the final over of the first innings of the first T20I against Australia in Canberra on 4th December 2020.”

“The diagnosis was confirmed based on a clinical assessment in the dressing room during the innings break by the BCCI Medical Team. Jadeja remains under observation and will be taken for further scans if required based on the assessment on Saturday morning.”

Shardul Thakur, right-arm pace bowler, earns a place in the T20 squad as a result of this. The 29-year old featured in the third ODI and registered the bowling figures of 3/51 in a winning cause.
