BAN vs IND: 1st Test – Talking points from Day 2

It was yet again a bright day for the visitors, India, who gave nothing away to hosts Bangladesh in the second day’s play of the Chattogram Test. Shreyas Iyer (86) missed out on a century, however, R Ashwin (56) and Kuldeep Yadav (40) capitalised on their chances with the bat and helped India to an excellent total of 404 in the first innings. Bangladesh were in complete disarray against the Indian bowlers and were left reeling at 133 for 8 at stumps on day two. Here are the talking points from day two.

3. India’s lower order yet again steps up

In the last two to three years, India has managed to compete quite well on away conditions and one of the reasons behind it has been the lower order’s contribution. R Ashwin, who came in at number eight, hit two fours and two sixes in his 56-run knock and he stitched a valiant partnership with Kuldeep Yadav for the ninth wicket, which helped India’s total to the 400-run mark.

2. Mohammed Siraj’s fiery spell with the new ball

Mohammed Siraj has been showing from time to time that he is ready to rock the international arena and he was quite impressive with the new ball. He managed to get rid of Najmul Hossain Shanto for a golden duck and later picked up the big wicket of Litton Das who looked set for a big score. The 28-year-old finished with 3 for 14 in his nine overs and hardly bowled any loose deliveries.

1. Kuldeep Yadav stuns Bangladesh with bat and ball

Kuldeep Yadav was the star performer on the day as he picked four wickets to dismantle the Bangladesh batting order. The Chinaman used his variations to outsmart the batters and did not allow them to read him. He also was handy with the bat in the first innings as well as his partnership with Ashwin took the game further away from Bangladesh.
