BBL 09: Afghan wonder Rashid Khan claims hat-trick for Adelaide Strikers

Rashid Khan hat-trick

Number one T20I bowler in the world, Afghanistan’s leg-spinner Rashid Khan claimed a hat-trick in the ongoing Big Bash League. Representing Adelaide Strikers in Australia’s T20 league, the Afghan spinner took a broken hat-trick against Sydney Sixers at the Adelaide Oval. However, Strikers ended up on the losing side as Sixers won by two wickets.

Batting first, Adelaide Strikers managed only 135 runs before losing all ten wickets. Jake Weatherald (47) and Alex Carey (32) were the top contributors. In reply, Sixers began their response poorly but recovered from 19/2 to bolster their chasing efforts. Rashid Khan had already taken a wicket in his first two overs as he stepped on to bowl the 11th over.

James Vince and Jordan Silk successfully negotiated the first four balls of Rashid’s over. On the penultimate ball, the legspinner extracted an outside edge which ended in the hands of wicketkeeper Alex Carey. His googly then foxed Jake Edwards on the first ball he faced. The hawkeye did show that the ball would have gone over the stumps.

Silk was on strike when Rashid began his next over. The Afghan spinner used his googly which went through the batsman’s defences. Jubilant Rashid celebrated another hat-trick of his illustrious career.

Sixers were in a spot of bother after the hat-trick but Tom Curran’s 21(20) and Josh Hazlewood’s wonderful 12 not out from three balls (all fours) completed a thrilling two-wicket win for the Sydney side. They are the top of the points table after this won. Adelaide Strikers find themselves at the fourth spot.
