BBL 09: David ‘Killer’ Miller signs up with Hobart Hurricanes

David Miller

The Hobart Hurricanes have roped in South Africa dasher David Miller for the upcoming edition of Big Bash League. Miller will be available for all 14 games throughout the 2019-20 season. This will be his first stint with any club in Australia’s premier T20 tournament.

The South African batsman becomes the second overseas signing for the Hurricanes, who first signed up Afghanistan’s Qais Ahmed. In 294 T20s so far, Miller has racked up 6441 runs at a strike rate of 138.78. Apart from representing the Proteas in 72 T20Is, he has also plied his trade for franchises in the IPL and CPL. With tons of experience in his kitty, Miller is likely to become a vital cog in the Hurricanes setup.

He will be expected to put his hand up in the absence of Matthew Wade, D’Arcy Short and Ben McDermott, who could possibly be on national duty during the tournament.

Miller’s tryst with Hobart dates back to 2018 when the batsman smashed a memorable 139 off 108 balls to help South Africa beat Australia in a day-night ODI.

“Exciting addition”: Cricket Tasmania

“It’s very exciting to welcome a player of David’s calibre to the Hurricanes,” Cricket Tasmania CEO Nick Cummins said.

“We’ve built a reputation as a destination club amongst internationals, and we are confident David’s hard hitting batting will give our members and fans great entertainment, and possibly a few opportunities to catch a six!”

“We expect to lose some batting experience throughout the season, so David will provide valuable runs in our drive to our third successive finals campaign.”

BBL Season 9 kicks off on December 17, with the Brisbane Heat taking on Sydney Thunder at The Gabba. Hurricanes are slated to play their opening game on December 20 against the Sydney Sixers.
