BBL 10: Dawid Malan signs with Hobart Hurricanes for 2020-21 edition

Top-ranked T20 batsman and England cricketer Dawid Malan has joined the Hobart Hurricanes for the 2020-21 edition of the Big Bash League.

Malan’s addition provides a huge impetus to the Hurricanes side, as the uncertainty around the availability of England players for this year’s BBL continues to loom. Alongside captain Matthew Wade and D’Arcy Short, Malan could be in the mix for a top-three slot in the playing XI.

“The Big Bash is recognised as one of the leading T20 leagues in the world, and I’m excited to be joining the Hurricanes”, said Malan. “I love the whole ethos of Australian sport, and really enjoy playing in front of Aussie crowds.”

To strengthen their bowling department, the Hurricanes have brought in young Victorian spinner Wil Parker. The teenager is set to replace Afghanistan’s Qais Ahmed after the Hurricanes decided not to extend his contract. 18-year-old Parker made his first-class debut for Victoria last summer and is rated as a highly promising leg-spinner.

“I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to be part of the Hurricanes program”, Parker said.

“The Big Bash is one of the best T20 competitions in the world and to have the chance to play with and against the best players in the world is a dream come true. It’s a huge opportunity for me to work with Adam and the coaching staff to develop my game over the next two seasons,” he was quoted as saying by ESPNCricinfo.

Led by Matthew Wade, the Hobart Hurricanes had a successful outing last season. They made it to the playoff stage but ended up losing to the Sydney Thunder in the Eliminator.
