BBL 10: Sydney Sixers bring in all-round Dan Christian

The Sydney Sixers have roped in all-rounder Daniel Christian for the next two seasons in the Big Bash League. Christian joins the defending champions after a two-year stint with the Melbourne Renegades.

Incidentally, Christian began his professional career with a List A debut for the New South Wales back in 2006. His signing with the Sixers now marks his return to home base, completing a full circle of an eventful career so far. This will also be the 17th overall club that he will play T20 cricket for. The all-rounder has previously played for three other BBL franchises and has won seven trophies across the globe, making him one of the most prolific cricketers in the format.

“We were just chatting one day and I mentioned my desire to head back to Sydney at some stage and look to finish my career where it started,” Christian told cricket.com.au about his conversation with close friend and Sixers captain Moises Henriques.

“It was more of a casual chat between Moises and I to start with and then it just snowballed from there and it’s come to fruition.”

A veteran of the game

Christian’s departure has been the second such move from the Renegades dressing room after veteran Tom Cooper signed up with the Brisbane Heat earlier this week. The all-rounder, who is currently captaining unbeaten Notts in England’s T20 Blast, declared there’s still plenty of cricket left in him.

“I’m feeling really good and I’m loving my cricket. I’ve done a bit of work in lockdown and the off-season on my fitness and technical stuff with my bowling. I’ve got a bit of pace back with my bowling that I’ve probably lost in the last couple of years and I’ve worked on my agility in the field to get that back to where it was in my late twenties.

The all-rounder is set to become only the sixth player to represent four different BBL teams, with Brisbane Heat and Hobart Hurricanes being the other two franchises.
