Birthday Special: Carlos Brathwaite – The name everyone remembers!

Brathwaite

The four sixes that Carlos Brathwaite hit off Ben Stokes’ bowling in the last over of the 2016 T20 World Cup final between West Indies and England will be remembered by everyone. In one of the most dramatic finishes to a World Cup final, Brathwaite pummelled Stokes into oblivion and helped the ‘Men in Maroon’ score the required 19 runs for them to become World Champions.

When the occasion demanded, Brathwaite stood up for his side. His 10-ball 34* against England in the 2016 World Cup Final will be etched in golden letters in cricketing folklore. And, in just a 10-ball span, Brathwaite became the hero of West Indian cricket.

Brathwaite: The man for many occasions

Well, Brathwaite is not just a one-knock wonder in the World Cup. Many New Zealand fans will still remember the scare he gave to New Zealand in the 2019 World Cup on 22nd June 2019. In pursuit of 292, West Indies were reduced to 164/7, and even the chances of a fightback looked bleak.

But Brathwaite took it upon his shoulders and went totally berserk with the bat. His scintillating century off just 82 deliveries allowed the Windies to make a match out of it, creating tension in the Kiwi camp. But just when they were one hit away from victory, Brathwaite holed out to deep mid-wicket and departed for 101, as the Kiwis edged to victory by a mere 5 runs. But then, the very fact that Brathwaite brought his side back from the dead made this knock extremely special.

Some cricketers have played for a long period of time, but still haven’t created a significant impact. However, Brathwaite will forever be remembered by every West Indian fan for allowing them to experience one of their proudest moments in the history of cricket.

Here’s wishing Carlos Brathwaite a very happy birthday! Everyone remembers the name 🙂
