The importance of all-rounders in cricket is immense. With the ever-increasing demands of the game and the cutthroat competition, a player who can contribute to the team in all three departments with utmost perfection is a blessing to have.

South Africa’s Marizanne Kapp has been serving the national team with her all-rounder abilities for the last 12 years now. As the star all-rounder celebrates her birthday on January 4, let’s have a look at her impressive journey so far.

She kicked start her international career in 2009 in an ICC women’s World Cup game. Though she wasn’t able to make a larger impact immediately, she eventually developed herself as one of the most pivotal cogs of the team’s wheel. With her consistent performances, Kapp gradually became a regular member of the national team.

Her outing against Bangladesh wherein she registered the figures of four for six is one of the best of her career. With her impressive performances, she has created a legacy for women’s cricket in South Africa and globally. In the year 2017, she was named as one of the players in ICC Women’s ODI team of the year.

As a child, she was intrigued by quite a few sports but it was cricket she was most passionate about. Kapp holds the record for the highest score by a South African at Women’s World Cups. She hit unbeaten 102 runs against Pakistan at Cuttack in 2013. She has been one of the flagbearers for South African women’s cricket for a long now.

Kapp has featured in 118 ODIs and 84 T2OIs for South Africa wherein she has scalped 134 and 66 wickets, respectively. She has also scored 2017 runs in ODIs whereas 1046 in the T20Is.  Having played over 100 ODIs, she has a plethora of experience under her sleeves and is one of the crucial players of the side.
