Bloopers: Five most embarrassing moments featuring cricketers

Over the years, the game of cricket has given the world a lot to celebrate for. The prime purpose of every game is to entertain the fans and cricket has done that with aplomb. But the gentlemen’s game has also witnessed several embarrassing moments taking place on the field. While the players play their part to almost perfection, sometimes they make horrendous gaffes. So here we are taking a look at 5 of the most embarrassing moments for cricketers on the field.

1. Hasan Ali getting injured while celebrating a wicket:

Taking a wicket calls for celebration but one should not get carried away and Pakistan fast-bowler Hasan Ali showed it why. The right-arm pacer had ended up injuring himself while doing his trademark ‘bomb’ celebration after taking a wicket during an ODI match against Zimbabwe in July 2018. Right after spreading his arm in delight to celebrate the dismissal of Ryan Murray, he was seen clutching his neck in pain. Fortunately for Hasan, it was not a serious injury.

2. Glenn Maxwell’s embarrassing leave:

The batsmen get just a fraction of a second to judge the line and length of the ball. More often than not, they do a stellar job with the bat but sometimes they misjudge the lines too. Unfortunately for some batsmen, those rare mistakes cost them big. Australia star Glenn Maxwell made such a mistake too and was left red-faced.

The incident took place back in December 2014 in the Big Bash League when he was playing for Melbourne Stars against Brisbane Heat. In an order to play a big shot off Ryan Duffield, he had come down the track but decided to leave the ball. The ball went on to crash into the stumps, leaving Maxwell absolutely embarrassed.

3. Rohan Mustafa chasing the ball while being shirtless:

Rohan Mustafa chasing the ball while being shirtless has to be one of the most bizarre and embarrassing incidents on the cricket field. The incident took place during the match between Team Abu Dhabi and Northern Warriors in Abu Dhabi T10 League. While the game was on, Mustafa was busy changing his shirt while fielding and was caught off guard. The incident happened when Waseem Mohammed smacked a Jamie Overton delivery towards the deep backward point fence. Mustafa tried to stop the ball while being shirtless but failed, leaving almost everyone on the field in splits.

4. Shahid Afridi refusing to shake hands with a girl:

Shahid Afridi is an enigma, isn’t it? Nobody knows what to expect from the former Pakistan allrounder when he is on the cricket field. Afridi is a cocktail of brilliance and madness. Well, one cannot predict his actions off the field either and one lady realised it in a very rude way when Afridi refused to shake hands with her.  The incident took place during an ODI series between Pakistan and New Zealand in UAE in 2014. In the post-match presentation, Afridi received a prize from the lady and completely ignored the extended hand of the lady.

5. Usman Khawaja’s wardrobe malfunction:

Wardrobe malfunction is not very common in cricket but the rare incident took place during the tenth edition of the Big Bash League when Sydney Thunder were playing against Brisbane Heat. Thunder batsman Usman Khawaja was seen stripping down to his trunks in order to change his abdomen guard after the one he was wearing snapped. While one expected the batsman to run to the dressing room to change, Khawaja left everyone in shock by deciding to do it on the field.
