Captains with most ODI wins

Over the years, the cricketing fraternity has seen several successful captains who have led their respective countries exceptionally well. Here are three such skippers who have won most ODI games during their tenure as a captain.

3. Allan Border (107 games)

Considered one of the greatest players to represent Australia in the international arena, Allan Border has led his side to victory in 107 matches. Border was named as Australian skipper on December 7, 1984, and he led the Australian side for more than 10 years. Border took retirement from international cricket in May 1994.

2. MS Dhoni (110 games)

One of the best skippers to lead the Indian side, the Men in Blue achieved plenty under the leadership of their Captain Cool MS Dhoni, winning many as 110 games which included the famous 2011 World Cup where the Men in Blue defeated Sri Lanka to clinch the prized trophy. Just two years after, team India won an emphatic final match of the Champions Trophy as Dhoni stamped his authority in the international arena. After handing the captaincy reigns to Virat Kohli, Dhoni continued to play limited-overs formats. The right-handed batter played his international game during the semi-final match of the 2019 World Cup against New Zealand.

1. Ricky Ponting (165 games)

Undoubtedly one of the best players to lead the Australian team, Ricky Ponting is Australia’s longest-serving captain in the 50-over format. Under his leadership, the Men in Yellow won the 2003 World Cup. Ponting was named as Australian skipper in 2002 and he continued doing so until 2012. During his captaincy tenure, Ponting won 165 matches as a captain while losing 51 games and finished with an impressive win percentage of 76.14.
