Carlos Brathwaite and his wife blessed with baby girl

Carlos Brathwaite

West Indies all-rounder Carlos Brathwaite has become a father for the first time and he shared the good news on Tuesday (February 8). Brathwaite and his wife have been blessed with a baby girl and she has been named Eden Rose. Now, there’s a significant reason behind this name. During the 2016 T20 World Cup final against England, the Caribbean dasher smashed four successive sixes in the last over to take West Indies to glory.

That epic clash took place at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata and hence, Brathwaite’s daughter’s name has been inspired from the venue. Meanwhile, the couple welcomed their first child on Sunday (February 6) and shared the news a couple of days later. Taking to Instagram, the 33-year-old shared some pictures of new-born daughter with a heartfelt caption.

Carlos Brathwaite shares heartfelt post

Notably, former West Indies cricketer Ian Bishop, who was in the commentary box in the 2016 T20 World Cup final, famously said “Remember the name Carlos Brathwaite” after the all-rounder sealed the game for West Indies. The dasher made the same reference in his post.

REMEMBER THE NAME Eden Rose Brathwaite D.O.B 2/6/22 You were worth the wait you gorgeous little girl. Daddy promises to love you with all his heart. Thank you @jessipurple246 You are strong , you are resilient and I know you’ll be an amazing mother. Love you both x,” he captioned the picture.

Meanwhile, Brathwaite, who played his last international match in August 2019, has been out of the team for a long time. Although he has been performing well in T20 leagues across the globe, it will be interesting to see when he makes his next international appearance. The veteran all-rounder wasn’t considered for the last year’s T20 World Cup in UAE and Oman as well.

A T20 World Cup is scheduled to take place later this year as well in Australia. Hence, some impressive performances in the T20 arena can earn Brathwaite a comeback. So far, he has played a total of three Tests, 44 ODIs and 41 T20 Internationals for West Indies.
