CSK vs DC Review – Chennai move closer to playoffs with another win

Chennai Super Kings defeated Delhi Capitals by 27 runs at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Wednesday, May 10. After a subpar performance with the bat, the four-time champions made a resilient comeback during the run chase. The batting attack of Delhi failed to chase the target of 168 runs and faced their seventh defeat of the season.

Coming in to bat first after winning the toss, Chennai Super Kings put in a subpar performance in the first innings. Shivam Dube was the highest run-getter for the four-time champions, with 25 runs to his name. Furthermore, through quality contributions by Ajinkya Rahane, Ambati Rayudu, Ravindra Jadeja, and MS Dhoni, Chennai posted 167 runs on the board.

Mitchell Marsh was excellent with the ball in the first innings, taking three wickets and conceding 18 runs in three overs. Axar Patel took two wickets in the four overs he bowled, with Khaleel Ahmed, Lalit Yadav, and Kuldeep Yadav taking one wicket each. Coming in to chase the target, Delhi Capitals got off to the worst of starts as skipper David Warner was dismissed for a duck.

Furthermore, Phil Salt and Mitchell Marsh failed to make an impact as they collectively amassed 22 runs. Manish Pandey and Rilee Rossouw played resilient knocks, scoring 27 and 35 runs, respectively. However, the batting attack crumbled under the relentless attack of Chennai’s bowling lineup. Deepak Chahar and Matheesha Pathirana took two wickets each, with Ravindra Jadeja striking once as well. As a result, Delhi closed their innings at 140/8.
