DC vs PBKS Review – Delhi topple against Punjab’s spin duo

Punjab Kings defeated Delhi Capitals by 31 runs at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Saturday, May 13. Prabhsimran Singh’s fantastic ton helped Punjab post 167 runs on the board in the first innings, however, despite David Warner providing the side with an excellent start, the middle order failed to convert.

Coming in to bat first after losing the toss, Punjab Kings got off to a brilliant start to the game. Despite skipper Shikhar Dhawan’s early dismissal, Prabhsimran scored 103 runs in just 65 balls to keep his team on track. Furthermore, Liam Livingstone, Jitesh Sharma, Harpreet Brar, and Shahrukh Khan collectively scored 13 runs. Sam Curran did amass 20 runs but failed to make any further impact.

Ishant Sharma was the highest wicket-taker, picking two wickets for 27 runs in the three overs. Furthermore, Axar Patel, Praveen Dubey, Kuldeep Yadav, and Mukesh Kumar took one wicket each.

Coming to chase, Delhi Capitals got off to a good as Skipper David Warner scored a quickfire half-century (54 off 27). Phil Salt scored 21 runs in 17. However, the collapse of the hosts’ middle order led to their doom. Mitchell Marsh, Rilee Rossouw, Axar Patel, and Manish Pandey collectively amassed nine runs in a big middle-order failure.

Aman Hakim Khan and Praveen Dubey scored 16 runs each, but it was not enough for Delhi as they lost the game. Harpreet Brar was fabulous with the ball during the run chase. The 27-year-old returned 4/30 in his quota. Furthermore, Nathan Ellis and Rahul Chahar took two wickets each.

Harpreet Brar: Harpreet Brar was just as crucial for Punjab with the ball, the 27-year-old took four crucial wickets and conceded just 30 runs in four overs. His breakthroughs were crucial in hindering the run chase as Punjab Kings dismantled Delhi’s batting attack.

The teams will play the reverse fixture on May 17 in Dharmsala.
