Deepti Sharma powers India to emphatic victory over West Indies

Team India registered an emphatic victory over the West Indies in the 9th match of the Women’s T20 World Cup on Wednesday, February 15. The batting attack of the West Indies struggled against India’s bowling; Deepti Sharma was the star of the first innings as she picked up three wickets and gave away just 15 runs in four overs. The Women in Blue won the game by six wickets.

The Windies opener, Stafanie Taylor provided the Women in Maroon with some much-needed runs as she scored 42 runs off 40 balls. Shemaine Campbelle also impressed with the bat as she scored 30 off 36 to provide the Windies with some stability.

118 was the target for India to chase. Shafali Verma provided the Women in Blue with a decent start, whereas Smriti Mandhana and Jemimah Rodrigues were unable to score much as they both were dismissed early. Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur and Richa Ghosh were the stars of the Indian batting line-up as they played impressive knocks to guide India to victory.

Kaur scored 33 off 42 balls before she was dismissed towards the end of the 18th over. Despite the dismissal, Kaur’s knock was integral for the Indian team as they bagged yet another victory.

Indian to loch horns with England in next fixture

After yet another emphatic victory in the ongoing Women’s T20 World Cup, the Women in Blue will be going up against England in the 14th match of the tournament. India remain second in the table after winning their second game of the tournament.

The match-up against England promises to be a cracker, as England currently lead the points table and are ahead of India on the net run rate. They won their first two matches of the tournament against the West Indies and Ireland. Now they face another tough opponent in team India, who seem to be in excellent form.
