There have been only two bowlers in international cricket who have picked up all the 10 wickets in an innings. This includes record figures of Jim Laker and Anil Kumble who achieved the milestone in 1956 and 1999 respectively. However, overall, a total of 25 bowlers have taken 10 wickets in an innings without conceding a single run. This includes all forms of the game including minor cricket.

The first such instance occurred in 1867 in the game between Broad Green and Thornton Heath. In this match, A Dartnell picked up 10 wickets in an inning without giving a single run off his bowling. 12 years later, RTP Tearne achieved the same milestone in the match between Pershore and Swinden’s XI held at Pershore.

Four more such instances occurred in the 19th century with bowlers from different teams taking 10 wickets for 0 runs in an innings. These bowlers were A Hipgrave, J Cottrell, F Rae and HS Thynne who created the record in the matches held in Sydney, Liverpool, Drayton Park and Seend.

Ten years after the heroics of HS Thynne in 1892, it was J Watts who was successful in picking up all 10 wickets without conceding a run in the 1902 match played between Castle and Junior Hawks. Similar such records kept occurring multiple times in the 20th century with bowlers enjoying a good run in those games.

The last bowler to achieve this unique feat was D Morton, who picked up 10 wickets for 0 runs in the game held in Brisbane. This match was played between Bayside Muddies and Ranatungas. No other bowler could repeat these heroics thereafter in the next 22 years till now.

Among these 25 players who hold this unique record, none of the matches was held in Asian venues. Similarly, none of the players from Asia could make the cut in the record tally. Though in overall Test cricket record, Indian legend Anil Kumble finds his name in terms of best bowling figures in a Test inning.  He picked up 10 wickets for 74 runs in an innings against Pakistan in Delhi Test, 1999.
