Do you know? Which team has played the most matches without an individual 100

11 players represent a team in a match to play every series and every tournament. Batters scoring a century for their respective sides is a common sight in the sport of cricket. In any format, it’s hard to believe a team playing a majority number of matches without an individual hundred. But Sydney Sixers is one such team who went a record number of games without the special feat.

Big Bash League (BBL) is an Australian professional Club 20-20 cricket league. Sydney Sixers is one of the teams participating in the league since its inception way back in the year 2011. The Sixers though created an unwanted record of going 145 matches without an individual century in T20s but their star player finally ended their barren run this season.

Steven Smith, Australia’s prolific Test and ODI batter, finally ended Sydney Sixer’s drought by slamming a magnificent century in Match no.45 of the ongoing edition of the BBL against the Adelaide Strikers. The classy right-handed batter hammered 101 off just 56 at the International Sports Stadium in Coffs Harbour.

Sydney batted first and Smith opened the innings with wicketkeeper-batter Josh Philippe. The right-hander struck five fours and seven maximums at a strike rate of 180.35 as his team reached a mammoth 203/5, eventually winning the encounter by 59 runs.

It was Sixer’s 146th match in the T20 format, which also includes the matches played in the BBL and also the now-defunct Champions League (CLT20) tournament. Before Smith, Philippe is the player who came closest to grabbing the feat when he scored an unbeaten 99 against Melbourne Stars in 2021.

Notably, it was Smith’s second hundred in the T20 format with the first one (101 off 54) coming for Rising Pune Supergiants against Gujarat Lions in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2016. The winners of the inaugural 2011/12 BBL edition, the Sixers are the third-most successful side in the competition with three titles after Perth Scorcher’s four.
