ENG vs WI: West Indian cricketers hit straps in intra-squad warm-up game

West Indies warm-up

The West Indian contingent arrived in England earlier this month for their scheduled three-match series. After completing the quarantine period of 14 days successfully, the squad divided themselves amongst two teams to engage in a warm-up match at Old Trafford, Manchester.

The three-day match was played between Brathwaite XI against Holder XI with Kraigg Brathwaite leading one side and Jason Holder leading the other. From a team of 13 cricketers, 11 could bowl and 11 could bat as is the norm in warm-up games. The match ended in a draw but the cricketers got their much needed time on the field.

Batting first, Brathwaite XI posted 275 in their first innings with Brathwaite (84) and Shai Hope (83) piling runs under their belt. Shayne Moseley from Holder’s team got to 83 in the fourth innings while there were three more half-centuries. Raymon Reifer and Alzarri Joseph were the standout bowlers with each taking six wickets in the match. The game ended in a draw as Holder XI batted out 44 overs in their final innings.

The English team will also play an intra-squad warm-up game starting on 1st July. West Indies-England will start the Test series on 8th July at Rose Bowl, Southampton.
