England declare 14-man squad for Ireland ODI series

England will be playing their first ODI on their home soil since their thrilling World Cup victory in 2019. The selectors have named a 14-man squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Ireland. The series will begin on 30th July at the Ageas Bowl. This series will see the start of the World Cup Super League.

World Cup-winning captain Eoin Morgan shall lead the side with Moeen Ali being his deputy. Reece Topley, the left-arm pacer who last represented England in 2016, makes a comeback. David Willey, who was kept out of the 2019 World Cup, also returns to the side. The squad features only eight cricketers from the World Cup-winning squad. Five are currently engaged in the ongoing Test series.

England ODI Squad: Eoin Morgan (Captain), Moeen Ali, Jonny Bairstow, Tom Banton, Sam Billings, Tom Curran, Liam Dawson, Joe Denly, Saqib Mahmood, Adil Rashid, Jason Roy, Reece Topley, James Vince, David Willey

Reserves: Richard Gleeson, Lewis Gregory, Liam Livingstone

James Taylor, the England selector, said, “We are developing excellent strength in depth in white-ball cricket. Even though a number of Test players are unavailable, there is great competition for places, as we have seen during the intra-squad matches and the England Lions warm-up match…These ODIs against Ireland are an opportunity to continue the exciting evolution of the ODI side, while also looking towards the T20 World Cup in 2021.
