England wicketkeeper Sarah Taylor retires from international cricket

Sarah Taylor

England Women’s wicketkeeper Sarah Taylor has announced retirement from international cricket with immediate effect. The talented gloveswoman was suffering from anxiety issues and she was not able to enjoy the game in recent years. Taylor has finally decided to move away from the game at the age of 30. This brings an end to her 13-year international career for England in all three formats.

“This has been a tough decision but I know it’s the right one, for me and for my health moving forward,” Taylor said. “I can’t thank my teammates enough, both past and present, and the ECB for being supporters and friends along my journey.”

“Playing for England and getting to wear the shirt for so long has been a dream come true and I have been blessed with so many great moments throughout my career. From making my debut in 2006, to Ashes wins, and of course the World Cup final at Lord’s, to name just a few. I’ve also been blessed with travelling the world and making lifelong friends along the way.

“To be right in the thick of women’s cricket as it’s gone from strength to strength – not only in England, but across the world – has been an amazing experience, and I can look back on what women’s cricket has achieved with great pride at playing some small part in it.”

Legacy

Taylor made her international debut in 2006 for England. She played in all three formats in the same year. The 30-year old retires with an experience of 10 Tests, 126 ODIs and 90 T20Is. She scored a total of 6,233 international runs with seven ODI centuries.
Despite her batting heroics, Taylor will be known for her wicketkeeping skills. One of the best keepers the game has seen, Taylor has pulled off unbelievable feats behind the stumps.
