Fast and promising: Three young pacers India should groom for future

Times have changed quickly in Indian cricket. It was always known to produce the best spinners and the best batsmen over the years. However, in the last half a decade, Indian pacers have taken the cricketing world by storm, changing those well-settled norms in little time. With many promising pacers rising the ranks, let us take a look at three young pacers which India should groom for the future –

3. Kamlesh Nagarkoti

Having the ability to bowl consistently in the higher-140s, Nagarkoti grabbed eyeballs during the U19 World Cup 2018, where he was one of the quickest bowlers around. His exploits with the ball earned him an IPL contract with the Kolkata Knight Riders in the same year, for a whopping INR 3.2 Crore. In his short IPL career of 11 matches, he has picked 5 wickets, while in 9 List-A games, he has 11 wickets. Given the 21-year-old’s ability to deliver long spells with consistent speeds, he is a certain bright prospect for India.

2. Shivam Mavi

In the same year and same tournament, another reliable talent came up by the name of Shivam Mavi. Having worked closely with many senior players, including Rahul Dravid at the National Cricket Academy, Mavi now also has the experience of playing at the Indian Premier League, where he is Nagarkoti’s teammate at the Kolkata Knight Riders. With the skill of clocking in the 140-145 range regularly, he has bagged 25 wickets in 6 first-class games, while 30 in List-A cricket from 22 games. In the IPL, Mavi has bagged 16 wickets from 20 games in three editions.

1. Avesh Khan

Avesh Khan instantly impressed with his shrewd skills during the recently-suspended edition of the Indian Premier League, where he remained the second-highest wicket-taker behind Harshal Patel, grabbing 14 wickets from 8 games. While he has been a part of the tournament ever since 2017, he only played 10 games in the four seasons, 6 of which came in 2018. Having gotten the scalps of MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli, Khan made a name for himself in 2021. He has 100 wickets in 26 first-class games, while 10 in 16 List-A matches.
