Fastest to 1000 ODI runs as captain

Babar Azam

Being a captain of a team adds more responsibility for a player. While few players cannot handle the captaincy and performance pressure at once, there are several players who have improved their game after getting the responsibility. Here is a look at three players who have completed the landmark of 1000 runs as a captain in quick time.

3.  AB de Villiers (18 innings)

Superstar AB de Villiers has won matches for his country single-handedly. The right-handed batter has also captained the South African side and stroked 1,000 runs in just 18 innings. During his playing days, de Villiers was one of the most feared batters in the cricketing world as he had all the shots in the book.

2. Virat Kohli (17 innings)

The former Indian skipper Virat Kohli is one of the most talented batters going around the world. The right-handed batter during his captaincy tenure led India to several memorable matches. He crossed the 1,000-run mark in just 17 innings and played many match-winning knocks for the Men in Blue. Currently, Kohli is in his personal bat as he has not been able to score a century for a very long time, but he would want to end that drought soon.

1. Babar Azam (13 innings)

Pakistan skipper Babar Azam is currently on another level as compared to any batter in the world. The right-handed batter is piling up runs series after series and left Kohli’s record behind after smashing 1,000 runs as a skipper in just 13 innings. Currently, Babar is playing against West Indies and has already stroked a hundred in the series. He will want to make another one during the third and final ODI between Pakistan and West Indies to be played on June 12 (Sunday).
