Former Australian skipper Tim Paine set to make his comeback in First-Class cricket

Tim Paine, the former Test skipper of the Australian team, is set to make his return to first-class cricket. As per the latest developments, the 37-year-old is very likely to play for Tasmania in the 2022-2033 domestic season after a fructuous discussion with Tasmania Cricket CEO Dom Baker.

The wicketkeeper-batter was previously released from his contract following his infamous sexting scandal that shook Australian cricket last year. He was dropped from the captaincy as well with Pat Cummins replacing him. He was not in touch with the game until late last season when he got into the scheme of things after being given an unofficial coaching role of the side.

According to sen.com.au, the Tasmanian looked ‘fresh’ and was in ‘excellent touch’ in the nets. He, however, isn’t still under contract with the Tasmanian board. Nevertheless, he is expected to play in the summer when Tasmania takes on Queensland on October 6 at Allan Border field.

Most of Australia wants to see him finish his career on his own terms: Dom Baker

Just before the start of the Ashes in 2021, Paine decided to step down as the captain of the Australian side and took an indefinite leave from cricket because of his mental health. A lot of people all over the globe expected him to retire from the game but that is not how he wants to walk away.

Dom Baker on Monday stated that the former skipper came to his office and asked if he can practice with the squad. He also spoke how everyone in the state wants to see him finish his career on his own terms.

“It was just great to see him come into my office and request permission to train,” said the CEO. He added, “He is training as an uncontracted player to get fit for club cricket, but if he proves to be anywhere near his best, expect to see him playing state cricket again. All of Tasmania and I think most of Australia wants to see him finish his career on his own terms”.
