Ganguly backs Ajinkya Rahane for WTC final against Australia

Former India skipper Sourav Ganguly backed Ajinkya Rahane and believes that the veteran batter can make the most of the opportunity of his Test recall in the World Test Championship finale against Australia, which is slated to begin on June 7 in Oval. Notably, Rahane was dropped from red-ball cricket in January 2022 after a poor run of form with the bat. Since then, he was also removed from BCCI’s annual contract but now, with many key players missing due to their respective injuries, the board decided to give him another opportunity to prove his class.

When it comes to his recent performances, the 34-year-old has wreaked havoc in the ongoing IPL 2023. He has scored 224 runs in eight matches at a strike rate of 189.83. He is striking the ball really well and that will give the cricketer much-needed confidence ahead of the marque clash. Ganguly also pointed out that opportunities at this stage don’t really come often and it’s up to the cricketer to make the most of it.

“I have always liked him. He has always been a good player for India. Opportunities don’t come every day and if he gets the chance to feature in the playing XI during the WTC final, he will make the most of it. So, I wish him all the best,” Ganguly was quoted as saying by India Today.
