Hardik Pandya reveals Yash Dayal’s deteriorating health condition

Gujarat Titans skipper Hardik Pandya provided a major health update on pacer Yash Dayal, stating that the latter may not play for the rest of the IPL 2023 season. It is worth noting that the pacer last featured for Titans in the high-octane clash against Kolkata Knight Riders on April 9.

For the unversed, Dayal was handed the responsibility to defend 29 runs in the final over against KKR. However, the left-arm pacer was hammered for five sixes on the trot by Rinku Singh, who played an impeccable knock of 48*(21). While doing so, Rinku single-handedly won the contest for KKR from the jaws of defeat.

On the flip side, Dayal was gutted for being unable to defend 29 runs in the last over and since then has not played an IPL match. Hardik Pandya, the skipper of GT, explained his exclusion from the side and provided major updates on his health condition. He also stated that the pacer may not feature in the playing XI for the rest of the season owing to his deteriorating health condition.

“I can’t confirm that (on his chances of playing again this season). He fell ill and lost 7-8 kilos after that match. There was a spread of viral infection during that period and also due to the pressure he had faced, his condition is presently not good enough to take the field. Someone’s loss is someone’s gain at the end of the day. It is going to take a long time before we see him on the field,” Hardik said during his interaction with Star Sports.

In his absence, Gujarat have turned to seasoned pacer Mohit Sharma, who has been phenomenal upon his return to the top-tier league. Mohit has featured in five matches and has proven to be instrumental for the side, scalping six wickets thus far.

Gujarat are currently second on the IPL 2023 points table after a comprehensive win against Mumbai Indians on Tuesday, April 25. Hardik Pandya and Co. won their fifth game of the season, with 10 points in seven matches and will be gunning to keep their momentum intact.
