Highest individual scores in Ashes history

The Ashes is a historic Test series in which two of the oldest and greatest arch-rivals England and Australia participate. The first match of this famous series was played way back in the year 1882. To date, a total of 340 games and 74 series have been played in The Ashes. Over the years, there have been some memorable and notable individual performances in these significant clashes and they feature in this article.

3. Bob Simpson (311)

A total of four players have smashed triple centuries in The Ashes and Bob Simpson is one of them. The former Australian holds the record for the third-highest individual score in this series. In the fourth match of the 1964 series, opener Simpson, who was also the skipper of the side, struck 311 off 743 with 23 fours and a maximum in Manchester. Courtesy of his splendid innings, the Aussies posted a huge total of 656/8d in their first innings. The game eventually ended up in a stalemate.

2. Don Bradman (334)

In the third match of the 1930 series, legendary batter Don Bradman slammed a terrific triple century in Leeds. The Australians batted first and Bradman came in to bat at no. three. The right-handed player racked up 334 off 448 with the help of 46 fours. His innings is the second-best score by a player in The Ashes. Courtesy of his marathon knock, the visitors managed to post a big total of 556 on the board in their first innings but the game ended up in a draw.

1. Leonard Hutton (364)

Former England batter Leonard Hutton has the best individual score in the history of The Ashes series. In the fifth Test in 1938, England batted first at The Oval in London. Hutton, who opened the innings with Bill Edrich, amassed 364 off 847. The right-handed batter struck 35 fours at a strike rate of 42.97 in his marathon innings. The home side reached a massive total of 903/7d, eventually winning the encounter by an innings and 579 runs.
