Highest ODI individual scores for India

On June 17th 2022, England smashed 498 runs against the Netherlands on the first ODI to create the highest team score record in 50-over format. Top three highest team scores in ODI cricket now belong to English team but Indian cricketers dominate the individual records as four of top eight highest ODI individual scores occupied by Indian batters, three of them by Rohit Sharma alone. So, let’s take a look at top three ODI innings by Indian cricketers.

3. Rohit Sharma (209 vs Australia, 2013)

The star Indian batter has scored three double centuries in ODI cricket, including the world-record of 264-run knock against Sri Lanka. But his 209-run knock against Australia in 2013 will be remembered by Indian fans for a long time. This was his first double hundred in ODI cricket and he also smashed the record 16 sixes. This knock came in series-decider and India won the match by 57 runs and a seven-match home series by 3-2.

2. Virender Sehwag (219 vs West Indies, 2011)

The former Indian opener smashed 219 runs against West Indies at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore to became the second player to score double hundred in ODI cricket. He broke Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 200* and held on to that for three years. Sehwag scored 219 runs off 149 balls with the help of 25 fours and seven sixes before getting caught out in the 47th over. His explosive knock helped India to score 418 runs and seal the five match ODI series against West Indies.

1. Rohit Sharma (264 vs Sri Lanka, 2014)

The current Indian captain has a knack for scoring big knocks and it’s no shock if he scores a big hundred in ODI cricket. But his 264-run knock against Sri Lanka in 2014, which included a whopping 33 fours and nine sixes, truly shocked the cricketing world as it was a first 250-plus individual score in ODI history. He broke Virender Sehwag’s record of 219 set in 2011 and took only 173 balls to scored 264 before getting caught out on the last ball of the innings.
