Highest ODI score by an NZ batter against India

Kane Williamson-led New Zealand registered a win in the first of three-match ODI series against team India. It was Tom Latham’s magnificent century (145 runs) that guided the Kiwis to emerge victorious in the contest. Over the years, the two heavyweights have competed in over 100 ODI matches and it is only natural that some of the players go overboard with the hitting and etch their names in history. So, without further ado, we take a look at the top three highest individual scores ever recorded by a Kiwi batter-

3. Kane Williamson – 118

Williamson played an integral role in the batting line-up as he smashed a mammoth 118 runs and revived the side’s batting innings just when it was to collapse. With his knock, the Kiwis posted a respectable total of 243 on the board for the Men in Blue to chase. However, in response, the bowling unit of the Black Caps completely troubled the rival batters until the final over. India were all-out for 236 runs thereby handing a narrow win to the Kiwis.

2. Nathan Astle – 120

Back in 1999 when the Kiwis set foot on Indian soil, Nathan Astle completely outplayed the rival bowling unit as he scored a record 120 runs to hand the side a massive total of 349 on the scoreboard that made life difficult for the Indian side to chase. Not just with the bat, but Astle flourished with the ball as he racked up three wickets and was adjudged the Player of the Match.

1. Tom Latham – 145

Team India posted a competitive total of 306 in their stipulated 50 overs in the first innings. In response, the Kiwi openers started off well with the aim to chase the total swiftly but were dented by the rival bowlers. In came Tom Latham and skipper Kane Williamson as they smashed the ball on numerous occasions. Latham registered a majestic 145* runs knock whereas the skipper scored 94* that snatch the victory away from the Indian side.
