3. Yashasvi Jaiswal | 171 runs

Yashasvi Jaiswal cracked 16 boundaries and a solitary maximum in his 387-ball 171. In doing so, Jaiswal became the batter with the third-highest score on Test debut, behind the likes of Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan. Notably, Jaiswal was adjudged Player of the Match his stellar knock as India won by an innings and 141 runs.

2. Rohit Sharma | 177 runs

The skipper of Men in Blue, Rohit Sharma created a lasting impression the longest format on his debut against the Windies. During the first Test in 2013 at the Eden Gardens, Rohit scored 177 runs off 301 balls which featured 23 boundaries and one six. Much like Jaiswal, Rohit too was adjudged Player of the Match as India won by an innings and 51 runs.

1. Shikhar Dhawan | 187 runs

Shikhar Dhawan tops the charts in this elite list as he registered the highest score for India on Test debut. During the third Test against Australia in Mohali, Dhawan scored a breezy 174-ball 187 and also raised a 289-run first-wicket stand with Murali Vijay. Dhawan’s knock featured as many as 33 boundaries and two sixes at an average of 107.47. His knock coupled with the solid partnership with Vijay helped India score 499 runs. India eventually won the match by six wickets as Dhawan was adjudged Player of the Match on his debut.
